Knowdown Rally
The Knowdown rally will be held on Saturday, February 24th in Middleburg. It will start at 9:00 and run through dinner. It will be run differently than past rallies because it will include hands-on booths and live horses as part of the knowledge tests! Sign up for the rally is due by February 6th. Please email me your intention to participate and I will send you the necessary paperwork to signup and the details on what to wear and bring. Please let me know ASAP. Thanks!
In addition to the kids who want to participate, we will need chaperones and parents to help us run our "booth" on horse nutrition. Please let me know your willingness to help and whether you prefer to chaperone or work on the booth.

Spring Lessons
Spring lessons for Difficult Run Pony Club will be held at Frying Pan Park on Sundays at 1:00 and 2:30 PM. Each lesson will last approximately an hour and a half. Please arrive in time to receive a safety check before your lesson begins. Warm-up exercises for you and your horse are usually a part of your lesson.
Please check your tack for condition and safety. Remember to wear a safety helmet (properly adjusted), a belt if you have belt loops on your riding pants, a shirt with sleeves, and paddock boots (half chaps are acceptable).
Please note that USPC requires that horses and ponies used in instructional, competitive, and recreational activities must be healthy, safe and suitable. A horse or pony may be excused from any activity if, in the opinion of the instructor, is unsafe either to it's rider or to other riders or horses.
"Suitable" is defined as:
* Stallions are not considered suitable.
* Serviceably sound, in good overall health, and in condition for the activity in question.
* Appropriate for the rating level of the rider and must be at a level of training to participate safely in the activity.
* At least 5 years of age in order to participate. B's and above are allowed to participate in noncompetitive programs on mounts that are 4 years of age.
* Applicable horse management standards may further define suitable.

Dates for spring lessons are:
March 25 April 1,8,29 May 20 June 3,10
Listed below (in alphabetical order) are lesson times. Groups within those times will be formed at each lesson. Over the course of the lesson session, we may have to change your time due to an emergency. We will try to avoid that, but will call you in advance if a change is necessary.

Successful Dressage Rally

Congrats also go to our dressage rally participants. We sent 3 teams this year. This rally was significantly smaller this year but that enabled us to include our D1 and D2 level kids who wanted to participate. All of our horse managers were 1st time ralliers - this is learning rally rules "trial by fire"! Though challenged, Lauren Smith, Gianna Lishman, and Lauren Angelo did an outstanding job!! Our riding participants also did well. Danielle Quinn was the high scorer in Intro level rides, Britt Hardy was third in Training level rides, and Chelsea McClung was third in First Level rides. Britt Hardy and Kim Delisi qualified for nationals! Sara Townsend, Lisa Kachouee, and Ashley Hobson, performed wonderful Kurs putting both Sara and Lisa in the ribbons. Sara Townsend's team with Meredith DiMattina, Danielle Quinn, Amanda Caputo, and Gianna Lishman, placed highest of our teams - 4th overall (they received a blue ribbon in the 4th division)! Our next highest team was captained by Lisa Kachouee with Katie Duval, Grace Cynkar, Kim Delisi, and Lauren Smith. Britt Hardy's team also did well though challenged being short one rider - her team members were Chelsea McClung, Ashley Hobson, and Lauren Angelo.
Overall I think the teams had fun and learned a lot of things to better prepare for their next rally!
It was also enjoyable to spend time with the parents that were at the rally. We got to know older and newer members better! Many thanks to our volunteers, especially Marianne Quinn who organized our participation in the event and hosted an outstanding sleep-over/pool party Saturday night!

Junior C Team - The Flying Changes: Sara Townsend, Chelsea McClung, Kim Delisi, and Charlotte Vita-Finzi came in 1st!
Britt Hardy Srambled on a junior C team with Casanova-Warrenton Hunt - the Horsekateers, and came in 2nd!
Kelly Icke, scrambled on a junior D team with North Mountain - coming in 1st!
Meredith DiMattina scrambled on a senior D team with Old Rag Mountain and Deep Run Hunt which finished in 2nd!
And last but not least, Lauren Angelo scrambled on a Junior D team with Old Rag Mountain which came in 1st!
Congratulations to all of our competitors! Everyone did a really great job and should be really proud of all that studying!
I also want to thank the moms, dads, and kids who helped out with ground school. Emily Raborn and Noelle Janka for helping to teach ground school, Jan Nelson and the moms who provided snacks, Michele Janka for organizing, and for the Symansky's for lending us their basement (not many people would allow a horse head disection in their basement). My apologies if I left any one out.
